Up Helly Aa, Europe's largest fire festival, takes place in Lerwick, the capital of Shetland in Scotland, on the last Tuesday of January every year.

Up Helly aa involves a series of marches, visitations and parties and culminates in a torch-lit procession and the burning of a Viking longship. It is a spectacular celebration which dates back to the 1880s, but has its roots in the Scandinavian history of the island. There's nothing quite like it!
