In the 1980s someone in Llanwrtyd Wells came up with an idea to race men against horses and a 22 mile (35km) race was devised. Only twice has man beaten horse since. Lots of other quirky events are held throughout the year in this small town including bog snorkelling, real ale wobble or ramble and alternative olympics.
