All set for English Tourism Week 2019

English Tourism Week is being celebrated this year from 30 March to 7 April and showcases the exciting range of visitor experiences in England.

ETW19_Logo-RED_RGB_1.jpgTaking place in spring each year, English Tourism Week campaigns to raise the profile of the tourism industry and celebrates the value and quality of tourism in England.

England is famous for its first class visitor experiences and attractions, and this year’s English Tourism Week will see many local and national events taking place, including exhibitions, guided tours, festivals and more.

Highlights this year include free guided tours at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, a gin tasting experience on a Yorkshire steam train travelling through Brontë Country, free talks under the iconic Major Oak in Sherwood Forest – legendary home of heroic outlaw Robin Hood – street art tours in Manchester and walking tours of London exploring the history of the Great Fire of London.

The visitor economy is worth £106 billion a year to England, supporting thousands of businesses and supplier industries such as restaurants, pubs, farming, transport, retailing, sport, museums and galleries, the theatre and other performing arts.

The English tourism sector touches everyone – visitors, residents, businesses and employees. It’s one of the few sectors active in every part of the country. It’s the third largest employer, every day supporting 2.6 million jobs and is a major employer of school leavers and young people and an incubator for entrepreneurs.

In 2019, overseas visits to the UK are forecast to reach 38.8 million and spending by overseas visitors to the UK is forecast to reach £24.9 billion.

English Tourism Week 2019 concludes with the now traditional ‘Big Tweetend’ on 6th and 7th April for everyone, including businesses, visitors and local people, to post their English Tourism Week images on social media using the hashtags #EnglishTourismWeek19 and #BigTweetend.

Janet Redler, Chief Executive of Janet Redler Travel & Tourism, said: “We’re looking forward to this year’s English Tourism Week, which is set to be bigger and better than ever! With a fantastic programme of special events and free activities on offer, there’s something for everyone and we hope as many people as possible will get involved.”
