The Cairngorms in Scotland and the Brecon Beacons in Wales have been named among the best national parks in Europe by Lonely Planet, one of the world’s leading travel authorities.
In its new publication, ‘The Best Things in Life are Free’, Lonely Planet has included The Cairngorms and the Brecon Beacons National Park alongside six other European national parks, including Olympus in Greece and the Pyrenees in France and Spain, in its list of Europe’s best national parks.

The Cairngorms is Britain’s largest national park and covers a vast plateau in North East Scotland. The park contains some of Britain’s highest peaks and is famed for its skiing in winter.
The Brecon Beacons in South Wales is home to the brooding Black Mountains and is famous for its magical waterfall country, Coed-y-Rhaeadr. It was awarded International Dark Sky Reserve status in 2013, one of only a handful in the world.

“Both of these national parks, as well as the many others in Britain, offer visitors access to some of the most beautiful places in the country and, what’s more, entry is free of charge. For those who want to linger, there is accommodation to suit all budgets, and the parks offer a wealth of activities and attractions, from sports and adventure, to castles and gardens.”
