Celebrating English Tourism Week 2018

This year’s English Tourism Week takes place from 17th to 25th March and will be celebrating the vibrancy and quality of England’s tourist attractions.

England is world-famous for its wonderful visitor experiences and attractions and during English Tourism Week 2018 there will be a wide range of local and national events taking place, including guided tours, exhibitions, visitor experiences and more.

Among the highlights this year, visitors and local people will be able to savour the finest gins at Manchester’s Gin Festival, take a free tour of the ancient city of Norwich on an open top bus, discover the county of Lincolnshire on an activity weekend, enjoy a chocolate fair in Surrey and follow in the footsteps of King Henry VII on a guided tour of Warwickshire.

Tourism is worth £127 billion to the UK economy, creating jobs and boosting economic growth across its nations and regions. Overseas visits to the UK are forecast to break through the 40 million mark for the first time in 2018, reaching 41.7 million, up 4.4% on 2017. Spending by overseas visitors to the UK is forecast to reach £26.9 billion in 2018, up 6.8%.

The English tourism sector is active in every part of the country and touches everyone, from visitors and residents to businesses and employees. It is the third largest employer in the country, supporting 2.6 million jobs every day, and is a major employer of school leavers and young people, as well as providing many opportunities for start-up businesses.

English Tourism Week 2018 concludes with a ‘Big Tweetend’ on 24th and 25th March for everyone, including businesses, visitors and locals, to post their English Tourism Week images on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using the hashtags #ETW18 and #BigTweetend.

Janet Redler, Chief Executive of Janet Redler Travel & Tourism, said: “We’re all set for this year’s English Tourism Week, which is now a firm fixture in the calendar for all of us involved in the travel and tourism industry in this country. We’re urging visitors and local people alike to make the most of another wonderful programme of events and to support at least one of the activities on offer.”
