The discovery of a rare and valuable First Folio edition of Shakespeare’s plays on the Isle of Bute in Scotland will make our tour to Mount Stuart House all the more exciting this year!
The copy of the First Folio was found in the collection of Mount Stuart House, where it was likely to have been acquired by the third Marquess of Bute in the late 19th Century. The book brings together 36 of Shakespeare’s plays and there are thought to only be about 230 copies surviving anywhere in the world.
Janet Redler, Chief Executive of Janet Redler Travel & Tourism, said: “We are really looking forward to seeing the newly discovered First Folio when we visit Mount Stuart later this year with a group of up to 25 visitors from Sweden who are taking a garden tour with us. I am sure they will be interested in this Shakespeare discovery too!”
Mount Stuart House is a magnificent Victorian Gothic mansion on the Isle of Bute on the west coast of Scotland and its spectacular gardens are recognised as some of the finest in Europe.
“Our tours to Mount Stuart are primarily about visiting the wonderful gardens, as part of our garden tours itinerary,” added Janet. “The astounding house has, of course, always been worth visiting too, and I’m sure this amazing find will add to the international appeal of Mount Stuart as a must-see tourist destination.”
2016 marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and events will be taking place across the country to celebrate his life and work.
