Following the success of the first North Wales Festival of Gardens in 2016, many of the most beautiful gardens in this spectacular part of the British Isles will once again be taking part in this fascinating nine day event, which aims to bring the glory of North Wales gardens to a wider audience.
The gardens taking place this year include: Aber Artro, Bodnant, Erddig, Powis Castle and Plas Tan y Bwlch. There will be various events taking place during the festival period, such as: meet the owner/head gardener, ‘behind the scenes’ guided walks, workshops, lectures, concerts, photographic competitions and treasure hunts for children.
The festival will be launched at Plas Tan y Bwlch on Saturday 27th May and will be officially opened by well know TV broadcaster Peter Gibbs, who is chair of BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time, a former BBC weatherman and an Antarctic scientist. The opening event is ticket only and will include a talk by Peter Gibbs, a ride on the Ffestiniog Steam Railway and a guided tour of the beautiful gardens of Plas Tan y Bwlch.

“Thousands of people flock to North Wales each year for the spectacular scenery, mountains, castles and seaside resorts, but perhaps less well known are the wonderful gardens,” says Janet Redler of Janet Redler Travel & Tourism. “However, within the region, there is an incredible variety of world class gardens – gardens which thrive because their westerly location allows them to benefit from the warmth and moisture of the gulf stream.
“The festival is an exciting initiative to help bring the splendour of the gardens of North Wales to the attention of more people, both in the UK and around the world, and at Janet Redler Travel & Tourism we are looking look forward to supporting the gardens and events.”
The festival is the brainchild of North Wales based garden writer and broadcaster Tony Russell, who is renowned as one of Britain’s leading experts on trees and shrubs. Supported by North Wales Tourism, the festival dates have been deliberately chosen to follow on straight after the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. They also coincide with the late flowering spring displays, which include rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias, making this one of the best times of year to visit the gardens of North Wales.
