Warm welcome for Britain's first National B&B Day

Saturday 24th March is National B&B Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the Great British ‘Bed and Breakfast’ and to recognising the important contribution made by independent hosts and hoteliers to the hospitality industry.

There are over 20,000 B&Bs in the UK and they contribute over £2 billion annually to the economy. The aim of National B&B Day is to raise awareness of the traditional B&B and to inspire holiday-makers to support this much-loved institution by booking a stay. And it’s not just B&Bs, tourists are being urged to support all kinds of independent accommodation provider, from guest houses to privately-run hotels and refurbished castles to luxury glamping pods on farms.

B&Bs play a vital role in the tourism industry in Britain, especially in rural and coastal areas, where they are often the only tourist accommodation. They also provide a vital function in supporting local livelihoods and creating employment opportunities.

National B&B Day is being organised by the B&B Association, in partnership with a number of travel industry organisations, including Booking.com, Expedia, TripAdvisor and eviivo. VisitBritain is backing the initiative, as are many regional and local tourist boards, and the UK Tourism Minister has declared his support.

Janet Redler, Chief Executive of Janet Redler Travel & Tourism, said: “It is great news that the B&B and independent accommodation sector has finally got its own national day! B&Bs are the backbone of the tourist industry in many parts of the country and often combine very good value with high standards of comfort and wonderful, friendly service.

“While it may sometimes be tempting to stick to the well-known hotel chains when arranging accommodation, tourists can often get much more for their money – and a more interesting and enjoyable stay – by taking the time to investigate the B&Bs in an area. B&Bs also offer travellers the opportunity to get off the beaten track and to explore parts of the UK they may not otherwise get to see.”

If you or your group would like to enjoy a tour of the UK and Ireland, staying in some of the best B&Bs or privately-owned accommodation, please do contact our friendly team today.
