The prestigious Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales has won the Best UK Hotel award at the 2017 Meetings & Incentive Travel Awards in London.
The five-star venue retained the Gold Award and has now been voted the UK’s Best Hotel six times in the last seven years. The resort held off strong competition from five other shortlisted venues including Chewton Glen, Cliveden and The Belfry – all in England – to retain the coveted accolade.
The Celtic Manor was confirmed as the leading destination for events in the UK after another outstanding year, when it returned record revenues, acquired a neighbouring 148-bedroom hotel and secured final funding agreements to begin construction on the new International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) for 5,000 delegates.
The award was voted for by readers of Meeting & Incentive Travel magazine and the Celtic Manor Resort was also a finalist in the Best UK Conference Venue category.
The Celtic Manor is located in the picturesque Usk Valley, near Newport in South Wales. Home of the 2010 Ryder Cup and host venue of the NATO Summit 2014, the resort is set in more than 2,000 acres of panoramic parkland and includes a large and versatile convention centre, four hotels, 10 luxury lodges, three championship golf courses and eight restaurants.
Ian Edwards, Chief Executive of Celtic Manor Resort, said: "This has been another incredible year of growth for Celtic Manor and we are delighted to be named Best UK Hotel once again.
“What is most pleasing about this award is that it is voted for by the industry professionals who are our conference and events clients. It is very reassuring to know that we are so highly regarded for exceeding their expectations. This award is dedicated to our entire resort team who work so hard to make achievements like this possible.
“We have had a very busy 12 months, but the year ahead looks even more exciting as we prepare to break ground on constructing the new ICC Wales which will be a real game-changer in terms of the major events we can bring to Celtic Manor and to Wales, delivering a huge boost to the Welsh economy."
Janet Redler, Chief Executive of Janet Redler Travel & Tourism, added: “It is great news that this sensational Welsh hotel has been named the leading UK events destination once again, beating off competition from a number of prestigious rivals. Offering first class facilities for all types of conference, the Celtic Manor Resort shows that Wales leads the way when it comes to five star venues for business and luxury events.”
