Morocco is a melting pot of culture and history and for many is the gateway to Africa.
Experience a taste of the exotic just a stone’s throw away from Europe in Morocco – a land of great beauty and diversity. With a magnificent coastline, the rugged Atlas mountains, a warm Mediterranean climate in the north and dry, sandy deserts in the south, Morocco really does have something for everyone.
Morocco’s culture is a unique blend of Arabic, Berber and European. Explore the narrow alleyways of the ancient towns, haggle for souvenirs in the markets or enjoy a cup of mint tea at a street-side café. Explore Roman ruins, trace Morocco’s Moorish links with Spain or relive the country’s French colonial days.
Tangiers is the first port of call for many visitors to the country and a microcosm of Moroccan culture. Once a cosmopolitan hub for foreign artists and eccentrics, the city now boasts a modern port, excellent restaurants and fashionable cafés. Highlights of the city include the Grand Socco plaza and the medina, or old town.
For many of us, Casablanca is perhaps the most famous city in Morocco, if only because of the movie. Now a modern, thriving metropolis, Casablanca still has a strong French influence. Relive the movie at Rick’s Café Casablanca while listening to the pianist play As Time Goes By, before exploring Place Mohammed V and the Hassan II Mosque.
The city of Fes (or Fez) is one of the oldest and largest medieval cities in the world, and is renowned for its old town, with its maze of narrow streets and bustling bazaars. The city of Marrakesh is famous for its huge Djeema El-Fna square and is also a great place to experience a traditional souk, or open air market.
Tetouan is a must-see for visitors to Morocco. This unspoilt town on the Mediterranean Sea has a long relationship with Andalusia in Spain, which is evident in its architecture, and its medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Chaouen (or Chefchaouen) is one of the most picturesque towns in Morocco, with its incredible blue washed houses and Asilah, another pretty place, has a 15th Century Portuguese influence, as seen in the old town walls and the medina.
Our tailor-made Andalusian Heritage tour explores the common heritage of Southern Spain and Morocco and the Moorish influence that is visible in the architecture and cuisine of both countries. Contact us to find out more...
